UPCOMING CLASSES 2015

Winter Learn, Lunch & Create Events at The Growing Place in Aurora
We're kicking off 2015 with classes and activities that will make the winter months fly by (hopefully). Each Saturday this winter, come on out for a class in the morning and a fun activity in the afternoon. Just want to do the class or activity only? That's okay too-you can sign up for any combination. All classes include a coupon.

Landscaping 101: Natives (11:00am)
Landscaping 101: Right Plant, Right Place (1:00pm)
Aurora - Cost Per Activity: Class $5 per session; Boxed Lunch: $10

Join us for a discussion about incorporating native plants into into your garden. We'll talk about which natives politely intermingle and offer flowers, lower maintenance and attract pollinators. Then after lunch, we'll talk about the design aspect and putting the right plant in the right place for success!

We'll take a look at some unique, unexpected and out-of-the-ordinary plants available this spring at The Growing Place. We'll also talk about new introductions and trends for 2015. After lunch, take a guided tour of our production greenhouses for some added inspiration!

Gardening 101: Pruning

Pruning is an art and a science. Bring your pruners as our experts walk you through pruning techniques and advice. Be prepared to go outside, weather allowing. Please call 630.355.4000 to register.

Make & Take: Mosaic Stepping Stone, Flower Pot or Birdhouse
11:00 am - 2:00 pm, Aurora, Cost: $65

Mosaic artist, Lisa Tolbert, returns! Follow her expert advice to make a charming 12" mosaic stepping stone, 8" terracotta flower pot or 8" birdhouse. Students will be introduced to all aspects of mosaic art including cutting china and glass, types of adhesives and how to use them, china chard layout, and grouting. Students are encouraged to bring jewelry, china, glass or other material from home to personalize the piece. All materials and use of tools are included. Registration is required. Call 630-355-4000.

Gardening 101: Learning the Lingo

What exactly does full sun or part shade mean? Why do we pinch and deadhead plants? Why do you spread roots when planting? What's best way to water? Get into the swing of things with this refresher course geared towards garden novices. Please call 630.355.4000 to register.

Gardening 101: Staging Containers
11:00 am, Aurora, Cost: Free

Set the stage at your front door with striking containers. We'll show you plants that offer long-lasting color and texture to take your containers from spring into summer. Get advice on plants for your home from one of our container designers. Please call 630.355.4000 to register.

Class is free. If you would like to make a container after the class, it is cost of materials.

Conversations in Our Gardens

Enjoy a special time in our gardens. Julie Fischer, The Cottage Gardener and dear friend, held conversations in her garden. They are the inspiration for this "Conversations in Our Gardens" series.
