Our Roots...
In 1936, Emma and Fritz Glatzhofer opened Emma's
Perennials selling field grown perennials. For 35 years they earned
a great reputation for growing the finest perennials in the Chicagoland
area. In 1972, after both Emma and Fritz had passed away, their
nephew, Rich Massat, and his wife, Carol, undertook the challenge
of expanding the nursery, adding annuals, trees, shrubs, roses and
groundcovers. In 1976 the name was changed to The Growing Place
and a goal was set to deliver uncompromising quality and selection.
Our Branches...
As the years have seen The Growing Place grow
and flourish, many changes have taken place at the Naperville
location. New flower bed displays pop up every season with ideas
to incorporate in your own garden. A peaceful water garden to wander
through soothes adults and fascinates children.
In 1988, 18 acres were purchased just north of Ogden Avenue on
Montgomery Road in Fox Valley. Here
a whole new world was opened not only to the farm, but for you
as
well.
A barn was
built, along with many greenhouses and perennial frames enabling
more plants to be grown. There are expanded gardens for you to
enjoy
in a farm like environment, plus a children's play area. Working
with the environment has been important while improving the land
at the farm. The business of growing is growing at The Growing
Place!
