The Growing Place has been growing its own plants since our beginning as Emma’s Perennials in 1936. We continue to grow almost 100% of the herbs, vegetables and mums and many of the perennials and annuals we sell.
The Growing Place, while not certified organic, makes every effort to be responsible, eco-friendly and sustainable. We use products that are approved for organic gardening and strive to use natural products and practices whenever possible, including employing beneficial insects. All edibles are grown separately from ornamental plants in our production facilities. We sell certified organic products for you to use in your garden.
GMOs (genetically modified organisms) are organisms whose genetic material (DNA) has been modified in a way that does not occur naturally, e.g. through the introduction of a gene from an unrelated organism. We do not sell genetically modified seeds or plants.
Hybrid plants are created by crossing specific plants through controlled pollination. Plant hybridization has been done for centuries to breed for desired characteristics and many of the plants we carry are hybrids. Even many heirloom plants are considered old hybrids.
